Where The Stories Began
Leylah spent her early years in a small village in Tanzania, where stories lived in voices and memory, passed down under the glow of the koroboi, kerosene lamps that lit the night.
When her family moved to a larger town, Leylah discovered everyday wonders like electricity and water from a tap. But it was in Kenya that she stepped inside a school library and found a different kind of magic: entire worlds built from words. Books became her passport to possibility and sparked the dream that she might one day write stories of her own.
Life, however, led Leylah down a practical path. She built a career in health care that has spanned more than thirty years. In her forties, she returned to books, first as a reader and then as a writer, and found the voice that had always been waiting for her.

The Current Chapter
Today, Leylah balances both callings: health-care professional by day, storyteller by heart. Her novels draw from her South Asian roots and from the places she has called home, including East Africa, England, the United States, and now Canada.
Leylah lives in Toronto with her husband, their son, an ever-growing collection of plant babies, and a Yorkshire Terrier who believes that playtime outranks writing and that every story is better with treats.
